Square Pizza Recipe – A Fluffy and Tasty Delight

Preparation time: 20 minutes
Baking time: 25-30 minutes
Total: 50-55 minutes
Number of servings: 4-6

Square pizza is a creative and flavorful variant of the famous pizza, perfect for a relaxing evening with family or friends. With a fluffy dough and colorful toppings, this pizza not only looks good but is also incredibly tasty. I will guide you step by step on how to prepare it, sharing some useful tips and tricks to achieve a perfect result.

Ingredients:

For the dough:
- 250 g pizza flour
- 1 tablespoon Dr. Oetker's yeast for leavened dough
- 1 teaspoon grated parmesan
- 1 teaspoon melted butter (cooled to room temperature)
- A pinch of salt
- Warm water (as needed, about 100 ml)

For the topping:
- 100 g thinly sliced salami
- 150 g grated cheese
- 200 g fresh champignon mushrooms, sliced
- 2 broccoli florets (boiled or sautéed)
- 50 g sliced black olives
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 egg yolk (for brushing)

Preparation:

1. Preparing the dough

Start by activating the yeast: in a small bowl, mix 100 ml of warm water with a tablespoon of yeast. Let the mixture sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, and grated parmesan. Make a well in the center and pour in the activated yeast mixture along with the melted butter. Mix well until you obtain a homogeneous dough. If necessary, you can add a little more warm water.

2. Kneading and rising

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes elastic and fluffy. Then, shape it into a ball and place it in a bowl greased with a little oil. Cover it with a damp towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes, or until it doubles in size.

3. Preparing the topping

While the dough is rising, prepare the toppings. Meanwhile, wash and slice the mushrooms thinly. You can sauté them briefly in a pan with olive oil for a more intense flavor or use them raw, depending on your preference. Slice the salami and olives, and either boil or sauté the broccoli to keep its crunchy texture.

4. Assembling the pizza

Preheat the oven to 220°C (optimized for pizza, if you have this option). Once the dough has risen, roll it out into a thin sheet using a rolling pin. Place the dough in a greased baking tray, ensuring it reaches the edges.

Spread the tomato paste evenly over the dough, then add the grated cheese. Use a portion of the dough to create thin strips that cross the pizza, forming a type of lattice. In the squares formed, place the slices of mushrooms, salami, olives, and broccoli florets, alternating colors for an attractive appearance.

5. Baking the pizza

Before placing the pizza in the oven, brush the surface with the egg yolk to achieve a golden and shiny crust. Bake the pizza for 25-30 minutes or until the crust is golden and the toppings are well cooked.

Serving:

Square pizza is served hot, cut into portions, and is perfect alongside a fresh salad or a refreshing drink, such as lemonade or a light white wine. It is an excellent choice for a family dinner or a gathering with friends.

Useful tips:

- Variations: You can customize the pizza to your preferences by adding vegetables such as peppers, onions, or zucchini. You can also experiment with different types of cheese, such as mozzarella or feta, for varied flavors.
- Calories and nutritional benefits: A serving of square pizza contains approximately 300-350 calories, depending on the ingredients used. It provides a good source of carbohydrates from the flour, proteins from the cheese and salami, as well as vitamins and minerals from the vegetables.
- Frequently asked questions:
- Can I use whole wheat flour? Yes, you can substitute white flour with whole wheat flour for a healthier option, but the texture will be slightly different.
- How can I store the pizza for the next day? The pizza can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator and reheated in the oven.
