I suggest you prepare a house-shaped appetizer cake, a simple and quick recipe that will bring a touch of magic to your table. This appetizer is not only a delight for the eyes but also a feast for the taste buds. With accessible ingredients and clearly defined steps, you will surely impress your guests!
Ingredients:
- 200 g cottage cheese
- 200 g cream cheese
- 150 g grated cheese
- 100 g ham or sausage, diced
- 1 red bell pepper, finely chopped
- 1 bunch of dill, chopped
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 5 slices of toast bread
- 2-3 tablespoons of mayonnaise
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 100 g olives for decoration
- A few sprigs of parsley for decoration
Instructions:
1. Preparing the base:
Start by cutting the toast bread slices into the desired shapes. You can use a house-shaped mold or simply squares and triangles. Lightly toast them in a dry pan or in the oven to give them a crunchy texture. This step will help maintain the moisture of the filling.
2. Preparing the filling:
In a large bowl, combine the cottage cheese with the cream cheese. Use a spatula or mixer to achieve a smooth mixture. Add the grated cheese, diced ham or sausage, bell pepper, dill, and onion. Mix all the ingredients well, and finally, adjust the taste with salt and pepper.
3. Assembling the cake:
Place a slice of bread on a platter and spread it with mayonnaise. Add a generous layer of filling, followed by another slice of bread. Continue this process until you reach the desired height, making sure to shape it like a house. You can make a roof from bread by cutting triangles from the toast slices.
4. Decorating:
Once the assembly is complete, cover the cake with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to firm up. When serving, decorate with olives as hardware and a few sprigs of parsley for a fresh look.
5. Serving:
Serve the house-shaped appetizer cake cut into slices and admire your guests' reactions. This appetizer will surely bring a smile to everyone’s faces!
Practical tips:
- You can experiment with different types of cheeses, such as feta or mozzarella, to add a different flavor.
- If you want a vegetarian version, omit the ham and add more vegetables, such as olives, cucumbers, or mushrooms.
- The house-shaped appetizer cake can also be customized for holidays by adding specific ingredients, such as colorful crudités or aromatic herbs.
This appetizer cake not only looks amazing but is also a simple and quick recipe that will impress everyone at your table! Whether it’s a party, a family lunch, or a gathering with friends, the house-shaped appetizer cake will surely become a staple recipe in your culinary repertoire.
The egg yolks are mixed with oil, yogurt is added and mixed well. Then flour, baking soda, and a little salt are added, and finally, the whipped egg whites are folded in. Everything is mixed well; I used a mixer. Half of the mixture is poured into a baking tray lined with parchment paper and baked for 15 minutes on low heat. In the other half, I chopped red bell pepper and baked the second layer. The two layers are cut into 4 pieces each. Now we move on to assembling the appetizer cake house. On a platter, I placed a small layer, spread it with cottage cheese mixed with sour cream seasoned with salt and pepper, and bits of olives. I added the second layer with the bell pepper and spread a layer of pâté, then the third layer and a layer of melted cheese (I used the type of melted cheese that comes in a stick but doesn’t run, it’s a bit firmer; you can also use herb butter). The fourth layer and cream cheese were alternated layer by layer. As you can see, the fifth layer was made smaller by 1 cm on each side, this way it forms the roof, and I continued decreasing the layers until the top. The entire cake is covered with a layer of cheese to level it as nicely as possible; normally it should be smoothed with a soft melted cheese that spreads easily, but I didn’t have any left, so I mixed the cottage cheese well with sour cream. On the edges where I started to decrease the layers for the roof, I placed a thin strip of layer to better form the roof, which I made from salami. The salami is sliced thinly and placed piece by piece, pressing slightly on each to stick to the cheese, starting from the bottom and covering the strip of dough. From the salami, I also cut small pieces for the door and made a chimney from a rolled piece secured with a toothpick. I placed slices of olives around the house. It is a very attractive appetizer and can be decorated according to one’s imagination. Next to the house, I sprinkled green coconut and cut out some little flowers from cheese and bell pepper. The dimensions of the house are 15/12 and 15 cm in height. The recipe for the appetizer cake house was proposed by Lissa on the recipe forum. Enjoy your meal!
