Two-Colored Crescents (Vegan)

I will present to you a delicious and simple recipe, inherited from my dear aunt Lili, who taught me that cooking is an art full of love and tradition. These two-colored crescents are perfect for guests or to enjoy a sweet snack alongside a cup of tea. They are also ideal for those following a vegan or fasting diet. Whether you enjoy them warm, right after taking them out of the oven, or cold, these crescents are truly delightful. Let's get started!

Preparation time: 30 minutes
Baking time: 20-25 minutes
Total time: 55 minutes
Number of servings: Approximately 40 crescents

Necessary ingredients:

For the syrup:
- 1 cup of water
- ½ cup of sugar
- spices (you can use vanilla, cinnamon, or lemon zest)

For the dough:
First layer:
- 200 g oil
- 300 g sparkling water
- 4 tablespoons of sugar
- 1 packet of baking powder or 1 cube of yeast
- 2 packets of vanilla sugar
- Flour as needed (approximately 600 g)

Second layer:
- The same ingredients as the first layer, but replace the vanilla sugar with rum essence and add 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder.

Filling:
- 500 g Turkish delight (you can choose different flavors, such as rose, lemon, or chocolate)

Decoration:
- Coconut or sugar

Preparing the syrup:
1. In a pot, add the water, sugar, and your preferred spices.
2. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring until the sugar completely dissolves.
3. Once the syrup has started boiling, let it simmer for 3-5 minutes, then remove it from the heat and let it cool.

Preparing the dough:
1. In a large bowl, combine the oil, sparkling water, and sugar.
2. If using yeast, dissolve the cube in a little warm water with a teaspoon of sugar and add it to the mixture.
3. Add the baking powder dissolved in lemon juice directly into the oil mixture.
4. Start gradually incorporating the flour, mixing until you obtain a soft but non-sticky dough.
5. Divide the dough into two equal parts. In one part, add the 2 tablespoons of cocoa and the rum essence, mixing well.

Shaping the crescents:
1. On a floured work surface, roll out each part of the dough into a thin sheet.
2. Cut the white sheet into larger circles and the cocoa sheet into smaller circles. Layer the small cocoa circle on top of the white one.
3. Gently flatten the overlapping circles with a rolling pin so that they integrate.
4. Using a knife, cut the circles into triangles.
5. Place a cube of Turkish delight at the base of each triangle and roll it from the larger side to the smaller side, forming the crescent. Make sure the edge is well sealed.

Baking:
1. Preheat the oven to 180°C. Place the crescents on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, leaving space between them.
2. Bake the crescents for 20-25 minutes, until they turn golden.

Syrup and decorate:
1. As soon as you take the crescents out of the oven, dip them hot into the cold syrup, making sure they are well covered on all sides.
2. After they have been syruped, roll them in coconut or sugar for an attractive appearance and delicious aroma.

Serving suggestions:
These crescents can be served alongside a cup of black tea or a flavored coffee. You can also add warm chocolate sauce for an extra decadent taste.

Variations:
Instead of Turkish delight, you can use fruit jam or melted chocolate to diversify the filling. You can also add chopped nuts or almonds to the dough for extra texture.

Nutritional benefits:
These crescents are an interesting choice for those looking to avoid animal products while still enjoying a pleasant taste and delicious texture. The added oil provides healthy fats, while the Turkish delight adds a portion of quickly available carbohydrates, perfect for an energizing snack.

Frequently asked questions:
- Can I use other types of flour?
Yes, you can experiment with whole wheat or gluten-free flour, but the result will vary depending on the type of flour used.
- Can I prepare the crescents in advance and freeze them?
Yes, you can freeze the unbaked crescents. When you want to bake them, let them thaw at room temperature and then bake them according to the instructions.

These two-colored crescents represent not only a delicious recipe but also a piece of the tradition and love we bring into the kitchen. Enjoy!
