Marinated Meatballs
To prepare the delicious meatballs with tomato sauce, we start by preparing the base mixture. In a large bowl, we crack a few eggs and beat them well with the help of a whisk or a mixer. We then add finely chopped fresh parsley, which will bring extra freshness and flavor to our dish. In another bowl, we take a slice of white or wholemeal bread, which we soak in warm milk until it becomes soft and easy to crumble. After obtaining a homogeneous paste from the eggs, parsley, and bread, we add this mixture to the minced meat, which can be pork, beef, or a combination of both. It is essential to mix the ingredients well so that all the flavors blend harmoniously.
Once we have a uniform mixture, we add our favorite spices. The most common are salt and pepper, but we can also add other seasonings like paprika or garlic powder for a more intense flavor. Now, we prepare the frying pan; we heat the oil over medium heat, being careful not to make it too hot to avoid burning the meatballs. We form meatballs of the desired size, either small to serve as appetizers or larger to be the main dish. We fry them in the pan until they are golden brown on both sides, carefully turning them with a spatula to cook evenly.
While the meatballs are frying, we take care of the sauce. We pour the tomato puree into a pot, add a teaspoon of sugar to balance the acidity of the tomatoes, and a bay leaf for flavor. We let the sauce come to a boil, then we add flour dissolved in a little water, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. We let the sauce simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes until it thickens slightly and the flavors combine.
After the meatballs are fried, we place them in a baking dish, one next to the other, to create a solid base. We pour the tomato sauce over them, ensuring that each meatball is covered. We place the dish in the preheated oven at 180 degrees Celsius for about 20 minutes, during which the sauce will penetrate the meatballs, enriching their flavor.
Finally, we serve the meatballs with a creamy mashed potato, which will perfectly complement the rich flavor of the tomato sauce. This dish is ideal for both family dinners and special occasions. Enjoy your meal!
