Chicken in Sweet and Sour Sauce
To obtain a savory and flavorful dish, we start by preparing the sauce, which will add a special touch to our dish. In a pot, we add the tomato sauce, along with sugar, vinegar, water, salt, and soy sauce. We mix the ingredients well and let them simmer over medium heat for about 10 minutes. This process will allow the flavors to blend, and the sauce to thicken. After 10 minutes, we add the flour, stirring constantly to avoid lumps forming. We let the sauce simmer for a few more minutes, then set it aside to cool slightly.
Meanwhile, we take care of the meat. We take the chicken breast and cut it into equal-sized pieces, so it cooks evenly. In a bowl, we combine the flour with water, yeast, and salt, mixing with a whisk until we achieve a smooth batter. We add the pieces of meat to the bowl and make sure each piece is well coated with the prepared batter. This step will give the chicken a crispy and delicious crust.
In a hot skillet, we add the oil and, once it is hot, we put the pieces of meat to fry. It is essential to fry them evenly on both sides until they become golden and crispy. Once the meat is ready, we remove it to a paper towel to absorb the excess oil.
Now, we take care of the vegetables. We peel and cut the pineapple into cubes and the bell pepper into strips. In another skillet, we put a little oil and, when it is hot, we add the pieces of pineapple and bell pepper. We let them cook over high heat for 5 minutes, to slightly sauté and release their natural flavors. After this step, we add the fried pieces of meat and let them combine.
After a few minutes, we pour the previously prepared tomato sauce over the meat and vegetables. We mix well to ensure that all the ingredients are evenly coated. We let the dish simmer for a few minutes, to allow the sauce to thicken a bit and the flavors to blend harmoniously. Before turning off the heat, we taste the dish and adjust the seasonings - salt, sugar, and vinegar - according to our preferences.
Once everything is ready, we serve the dish hot, ideally alongside rice or noodles. This combination of meat, vegetables, and flavorful sauce will surely be a delight for all who taste it. Enjoy your meal!
