Chicken Potato Paprikash
To prepare a delicious and nutritious meal, we start with an essential ingredient: onion. We carefully peel it, then wash it well under a stream of cold water. We chop it finely, so it can sauté evenly and add flavor to our dish. In a spacious skillet, we heat a little oil and add the chopped onion. We let it sauté over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until it becomes transparent and slightly golden. This is the flavorful base of our dish.
After the onion has started to release its aromas, we add the bell pepper, which we have also chopped finely, and continue to sauté them together for a few moments, until the pepper becomes soft and spreads its aroma throughout the skillet. At this point, it's time to add the chicken thighs, which we have washed beforehand. We let them brown slightly for about two minutes, then season with salt, pepper, and a teaspoon of paprika, which will give an irresistible taste and a pleasant color to the dish.
After a minute, we add a liter of water and let everything simmer over low heat. It's important for the meat to cook slowly to become tender, so we ensure the heat is just right. When the meat is halfway cooked, we take care of the vegetables. We peel, wash, and cut the potatoes into suitable cubes, then add them over the meat. Next comes the peas, which will add a pleasant texture and a splash of color.
Now it's time to deal with the carrots, zucchini, and celery. We peel them, wash them well, and cut them into similarly sized pieces so they cook evenly. We add them to the skillet among the potatoes and mix carefully. We add another 500 ml of water and a bay leaf for extra flavor. If you prefer a more fluid paprikash, feel free to add more water at this stage.
We let all the ingredients simmer together over low heat until the vegetables are cooked and the meat is tender. A few minutes before turning off the heat, we add fresh celery leaves, which will infuse the dish with a fresh and aromatic note. Once the meal is ready, we let it cool slightly, then serve it with great appetite. This is a dish that will surely satisfy even the pickiest of tastes. Enjoy your meal!
