Cherry and Apricot Dumplings - A Fragrant Delight

Looking for a simple and quick recipe for a delicious dessert? Cherry and apricot dumplings are the perfect choice! These fluffy delights, also known as gomboti, are ideal for the whole family and are highly appreciated by children. In just a few simple steps, you will create a dessert that brings joy and flavor in every bite!

Preparation time: 30 minutes
Cooking time: 15 minutes
Total time: 45 minutes
Servings: 4-6

Ingredients:
- 20 pitted cherries
- 5 pitted apricots
- 1 kg potatoes
- 200 g flour
- 1 egg
- 1 pinch of salt
- 100 g breadcrumbs
- 100 g sugar
- 1 packet of vanilla sugar
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 3 tablespoons oil

Step 1: Preparing the Potatoes
Start by peeling and cutting the potatoes into cubes. Boil them in a pot of salted water. Let them cook until soft, about 20-25 minutes. Once done, drain and let them cool slightly, then mash them until you get a smooth puree. This is the base for your fluffy dumplings.

Step 2: Preparing the Dough
In a large bowl, add the potato puree, egg, and salt. Gradually incorporate the flour, mixing with a spatula or your hands, until you achieve a non-sticky dough. It is important not to add too much flour, as the dough may become dense. If needed, adjust the amount of flour.

Step 3: Forming the Dumplings
Take a piece of dough the size of a ping-pong ball and flatten it slightly in your palm. Place a cherry or an apricot in the center of the dough and wrap the fruit with the dough, forming a ball. Repeat this process until you finish all the fruits.

Step 4: Boiling the Dumplings
Add water to a large pot and bring it to a boil. When the water is boiling, carefully add the dumplings. Gently stir with a spatula to prevent sticking to the bottom of the pot. The dumplings will be ready when they rise to the surface, a sign that they are fully cooked (about 10 minutes).

Step 5: Preparing the Fried Breadcrumbs
In a pan, add the 3 tablespoons of oil and let it heat up. Add the breadcrumbs and fry over medium heat, stirring continuously, until golden brown. Turn off the heat and add the sugar, vanilla sugar, and cinnamon, mixing well to combine the flavors.

Step 6: Serving
Remove the boiled dumplings with a slotted spoon and roll them in the fried breadcrumbs, coating them evenly. Place the dumplings on a platter and serve warm. These delicious cherry and apricot dumplings are perfect alongside a scoop of sour cream or a vanilla sauce for an extra touch of flavor.

Personal suggestion:
You can vary the recipe by adding other seasonal fruits, such as plums or peaches, for a unique blend of flavors. Additionally, if you want an even more intense flavor, try adding a teaspoon of rum essence to the dough. These cherry and apricot dumplings are not just a dessert but also a sweet family memory, perfect for sharing during special moments!
