In our family, pizza is not just a dish, but a true tradition. It is the perfect occasion for us to gather around the table, especially when the little ones leave their mark on the final product. Therefore, I invite you to discover our homemade pizza recipe, which is simple, delicious, and full of color.

A brief history of pizza

Pizza has become famous worldwide, but its origins are actually much older, inspired by traditional dishes dating back to ancient times. Over time, recipes have diversified, and each family has started to add a personal touch, using their favorite ingredients. In our family, homemade pizza is a symbol of creativity and fun, especially when prepared by the little ones.

Ingredients for the dough

- 500 g wheat flour
- 20 g fresh yeast
- 50 ml olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon raw sugar
- 250-300 ml lukewarm water

Ingredients for the topping

- 250 g Delaco mozzarella
- 200 g dried pork tenderloin
- 2-3 small colorful bell peppers (red, yellow, green)
- 100 g olives (preferably green and black)
- A few cherry tomatoes
- Pepperoni, sliced (optional)

Step by step: How to make homemade pizza

1. Activating the yeast

The first step is to ensure that the yeast will activate the dough. In a small bowl, crumble the fresh yeast, add a pinch of salt and a teaspoon of raw sugar. Pour in a little lukewarm water (not hot, to avoid killing the yeast) and let the mixture sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

2. Preparing the dough

In a large bowl, sift the flour mixed with a teaspoon of salt. Make a well in the center of the flour and add the activated yeast, the rest of the lukewarm water, and the olive oil. Use a spatula to incorporate the ingredients, then move on to kneading by hand. The dough should be elastic and easy to shape, but not too firm. If necessary, you can add a little water or flour to achieve the desired consistency.

3. Letting it rise

Cover the bowl with a clean towel and let the dough rise in a warm place, away from drafts, for about 30-40 minutes. This is the perfect time to prepare the toppings.

4. Preparing the topping ingredients

Meanwhile, wash the cherry tomatoes and bell peppers. Cut the tomatoes in half and the peppers into rings or strips, depending on your preference. Cut the dried pork tenderloin into small cubes and the mozzarella into small pieces, keeping a 50 g cube to grate on top.

5. Preheating the oven

Set the oven to 200 degrees Celsius. A high temperature is essential for a well-baked and crispy pizza!

6. Shaping the pizza

Once the dough has risen, divide it into two. Roll each portion into a round sheet, about 0.5 cm thick. Transfer the dough into baking trays. I chose to bake one pizza, but from the other half, I made stuffed flatbreads with cheese, baked in a pan.

7. Adding the toppings

Start by sprinkling the pork, mozzarella, the cut vegetables, and finally, the slices of pepperoni. Grate the remaining mozzarella set aside over the pizza for a delicious, melted look.

8. Baking the pizza

Place the pizza in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden and crispy. It’s important to check the pizza from time to time to ensure it doesn’t burn.

9. Serving

After the pizza is ready, take it out of the oven and let it cool slightly. Then, cut it into portions and serve it warm with your loved ones. It’s the perfect moment to enjoy an evening full of joy and share stories.

Practical tips

- Dough: If you want a thinner crust, roll it as thin as possible. The thinner it is, the crispier the pizza will be.
- Toppings: You can vary the toppings according to your preferences. For example, add olives, red onion, hot peppers, or even pineapple for an exotic touch!
- Drinks: Pizza pairs perfectly with a glass of red wine or freshly made lemonade.

Frequently asked questions

- Can I use dry yeast? Yes, you can replace fresh yeast with dry yeast. Use about 7 g of dry yeast and follow the same instructions.
- How do I store the dough? If you don’t use all the dough, you can keep it in the refrigerator, covered with plastic wrap, for up to 2 days. You can freeze it for later use.
- How many calories does homemade pizza have? A serving of pizza can have between 250 and 350 calories, depending on the ingredients used and the portion size.

Possible variations

- Vegetarian pizza: Replace the pork and pepperoni with vegetables like zucchini, spinach, or mushrooms (if not banned in your family).
- Seafood pizza: Add shrimp, squid, or smoked fish for a special taste.

I hope this homemade pizza recipe will become a favorite in your family, just like it has in ours! Cooking can be a fun and creative activity, especially when done together with loved ones. Enjoy your meal!
