This jam tart is a simple recipe, perfect for dessert lovers who want to impress without spending hours in the kitchen. With a crumbly crust and a jam filling, it’s a versatile dessert that you can adapt to your preferences. Here’s how to achieve a perfect result.
Ingredients for the tart crust:
- 300 g flour
- 150 g butter (or margarine) at room temperature
- 125 g powdered sugar
- 50 ml milk (or cold water)
- a pinch of salt
- jam of your choice (for example, apricot, cherry, or blackberry jam)
Preparation:
1. Sifting the flour: In a large bowl, sift the flour together with a pinch of salt. This step is essential to aerate the flour and achieve a lighter dough.
2. Incorporating the butter: Add the diced butter to the flour. Use your fingers to combine the ingredients until the mixture becomes crumbly. This technique is called "fraisage" and helps achieve a delicate texture.
3. Adding the sugar: Incorporate the powdered sugar into the flour and butter mixture. Powdered sugar dissolves more easily and will provide a pleasant taste.
4. Forming the dough: Gradually add the milk and mix until you obtain a uniform dough. If the dough is too sticky, you can add a little more flour. Knead gently, but don’t overdo it, to avoid activating too much gluten.
5. Chilling the dough: Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 1 hour. This step is crucial as it helps the dough firm up and become easier to roll out.
6. Preparing the tart pan: Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Once the dough has chilled, roll it out on a floured surface until you achieve a sheet about 5 mm thick. Place the dough in the tart pan, ensuring that the edges are evenly covered.
7. Adding the jam: Spread a generous layer of jam on the bottom of the tart. You may choose to use berry jam for an intense flavor or peach jam for a more delicate taste.
8. Decorating with pastry shapes: With the remaining dough, you can create decorative shapes (for example, flowers or strips) to place on top of the jam. This will not only enhance the aesthetic appeal but also intensify the flavors.
9. Baking: Place the tart in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, until it becomes golden and crispy.
10. Cooling and serving: After the tart is baked, let it cool completely before slicing. It is delicious served plain or with a dollop of fresh whipped cream on top.
Unique suggestion: You can add some chopped nuts to the jam filling for an extra texture and flavor. Also, if you want a less sweet option, you can combine the jam with cottage cheese or mascarpone for a creamy filling.
This jam tart is perfect for enjoying at a gathering with friends or as a dessert at a festive meal. Enjoy every slice!
