Braised beef steak is a traditional dish, full of flavor, that brings a comforting warmth to any meal. This recipe is highly appreciated not only for its delicious taste but also for its inviting aroma that will fill the entire house while cooking. Over time, braised steak has been prepared in various ways, but today I will present you with a simple recipe, perfect for a family dinner or a special occasion.

Total preparation time: 2 hours
Preparation time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 1 hour and 30 minutes
Number of servings: 6

Ingredients:
- 1.2-1.5 kg of sliced beef brisket (I recommend ribeye for a juicier steak)
- 2-3 carrots, peeled and chopped
- 2 small onions, julienned
- 1 slice of celery, chopped
- 4-5 cloves of garlic, left unpeeled
- 5 tablespoons of oil (preferably olive oil for a richer taste)
- 3 tablespoons of ketchup
- 2-3 bay leaves
- 1 teaspoon of dried thyme
- Steak seasoning (you can use a combination of sweet paprika, pepper, and salt)
- A few sprigs of celery and fresh parsley for garnish
- 1 glass of red wine (or water with a teaspoon of sugar and 3 tablespoons of vinegar)
- Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation instructions:

1. Preparing the meat: Start by cutting the brisket into slices about 3-4 cm thick. This will allow the meat to cook evenly and become tender. If you have less time, you can opt for thinner slices, but be careful not to dry them out.

2. Searing the meat: In a large pot, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the beef slices and sear them for 4-5 minutes on each side until a golden crust forms on their surface. This step is essential as the crust will add flavor and texture to the dish.

3. Adding the vegetables: Once the meat is browned, add the onion, carrots, and celery to the pot. Drizzling with ketchup will provide a sweet and sour taste and enrich the sauce. Then add the crushed garlic with the flat side of the knife, bay leaves, and thyme. These spices will transform the steak into a true delicacy.

4. Pouring the liquid: Carefully pour a cup of boiling water over the meat and vegetables. This will help to slow-cook the steak evenly, ensuring a rich flavor and tender texture.

5. Cooking in the oven: Preheat the oven to 180°C (medium heat) and place the pot in the oven. Let the steak cook for 45 minutes. During this time, the flavors will combine and the meat will become tender.

6. Turning the steak: After 45 minutes, remove the pot from the oven and carefully turn the slices of meat. Add the wine (or the mixture of water with vinegar and sugar) and season with salt and pepper to taste. Return the pot to the oven for another 45 minutes on low heat, making sure to occasionally baste the steak with the sauce from the pot. This will prevent the meat from drying out and will intensify the flavors.

7. Serving: When the steak is cooked and the sauce has thickened, remove the pot from the oven. Place the steak on a platter alongside the carrots and drizzle with the remaining sauce. Garnish with fresh herbs for an appealing look. If desired, you can also add a side of mashed potatoes or rice to complete the meal.

Helpful tips:
- Choosing the meat: Select quality meat, preferably from a trusted butcher. Brisket is an excellent choice due to its fat content, which gives it juiciness.
- The spices: Play around with the spices! You can also add other herbs, such as rosemary or oregano, to customize the recipe.
- The wine: If you don't consume alcohol, you can use water with vinegar and sugar, but a quality red wine will do wonders for the flavor of the steak.
- Side dishes: This steak pairs wonderfully with mashed potatoes, steamed vegetables, or a fresh salad for a refreshing contrast.

Nutritional benefits:
Braised beef steak is an excellent source of protein, B vitamins (including B12), and minerals such as zinc and iron. When consumed in moderation, it can be part of a balanced diet. Carrots add extra fiber and vitamins, while olive oil brings healthy fats.

Frequently asked questions:
- Can I use chicken? Of course! You can adapt the recipe using chicken, but the cooking time will be shorter.
- How can I store the steak? You can store it in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat gently before serving.
- Can I freeze the steak? Yes, the steak can be frozen. Make sure it is well wrapped to avoid freezer burn.

This braised beef steak recipe will not only impress family and friends but will also bring warmth and comfort on colder days. Enjoy every bite! Bon appétit!
