Baked Apples (II)
Baked apples are a simple yet flavorful dessert, perfect for cool autumn evenings. We start by selecting fresh, firm apples, preferably varieties like Golden Delicious or Granny Smith, which hold their shape well during baking.
The first step is to wash the apples under a stream of cold water and dry them with a clean towel. Then, using a small knife or a wooden spoon, we will core each apple, taking care not to pierce the skin. It is important to leave the base of the apple intact so we can add the ingredients.
After coring the apples, we take a teaspoon of cinnamon and sprinkle it inside each apple to give them a warm and comforting aroma. The cinnamon pairs perfectly with the sweetness of the apples and will create a delicious scent while baking.
The next step is to add whole walnut pieces to each apple, which will provide a crunchy texture and a rich flavor note. The walnuts can be lightly toasted beforehand to enhance the flavor, but this step is optional.
On top of the walnuts, we add a teaspoon of honey, which will sweeten the apples even more. The honey will melt during baking, creating a delicious syrup that will coat the apples.
Before placing the apples in the oven, we prepare the baking tray. We grease the tray with margarine, making sure it is evenly covered to prevent the apples from sticking. We place the stuffed apples in the tray, leaving a little space between them for even baking.
We preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius and place the tray with the apples inside. We bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the apples become soft and slightly browned. The aroma that will spread throughout the house while baking is simply irresistible.
Once the apples are ready, we take them out of the oven and let them cool slightly before serving. These baked apples are excellent on their own or can be accompanied by vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. Enjoy!
