Lentil Dish with Sausages
Lentils are a versatile and healthy ingredient, rich in protein and fiber, perfect for a hearty and tasty meal. Start by rinsing the lentils well under cold running water, ensuring you remove any impurities. Once you have rinsed the lentils, place them in a deep pot and cover them with water. It is ideal to soak the lentils overnight, as this helps reduce cooking time and improves texture.
On cooking day, start by preparing the sausages. Slice them into thin rounds so that they brown evenly. In a deep skillet, heat a little oil over medium heat. When the oil is hot, add the sausage rounds and sauté until they become golden and crispy, releasing their flavors into the oil. The aroma of the fried sausages will perfectly complement the taste of the lentils.
After the sausages are ready, drain the lentils and add them to the skillet, stirring well to combine the flavors. Add about a cup of water, enough to just cover the lentils and sausages. Cover the skillet and let it simmer on low heat, stirring occasionally, until the lentils become soft and absorb the flavors from the skillet. This process will take about 20 minutes.
Once the lentils are cooked, it's time to season them. Add salt, pepper, and a pinch of vegeta, adjusting the spices to taste. These will enhance the flavor of the dish, providing a balanced and savory taste.
Meanwhile, prepare the sour cream sauce. In a bowl, mix the sour cream with crushed garlic, which will add a note of freshness and a slightly spicy flavor. Gradually add a little flour to the mixture, stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Once you have a smooth paste, start gradually adding liquid from the lentil pot, stirring constantly.
After you have integrated the liquid into the sour cream mixture, pour this sauce into the pot with lentils and sausages. Let it simmer on low heat for a few more minutes, gently stirring to combine all the ingredients. You will notice how the sauce thickens and perfectly blends with the lentils and sausages, creating a delicious and comforting dish. Serve the dish warm, alongside a fresh salad or crusty bread, to enjoy every bite.
Ingredients: 500 g red lentils, 500 g lightly smoked Oltenian sausages, 400 g sour cream, one larger or two smaller heads of garlic, one heaping tablespoon of flour, 100 ml oil, water depending on the pot in which we prepare the food, salt, vegeta, and pepper to taste.
