Holiday Gingerbread

During the winter holidays, gingerbread becomes an essential dessert, filling the home with the spiced aroma of cinnamon and honey. This simple gingerbread recipe will not only provide you with a delicious dessert but also an opportunity to spend quality time in the kitchen. Moreover, gingerbread becomes softer and more flavorful as the days go by, making it perfect for breakfast, snacks, or even as a sweet gift for loved ones.

Preparation time: 20 minutes
Baking time: 10 minutes
Total time: 30 minutes
Number of servings: 20-30 cookies, depending on size

Ingredients:
- 2 cups of flour
- 1 cup of sugar
- 1 packet of baking powder
- 1 packet of vanilla sugar
- 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 1 egg
- Juice of one lemon
- 2 tablespoons of honey
- 2 tablespoons of butter (or margarine, or lard)

Preparation instructions:

1. Preparing the mixture: In a saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Add the honey and sugar, stirring with a wooden spoon until all ingredients combine into a smooth mixture. It is essential to stir continuously to avoid burning the ingredients. Once the mixture is well combined, let it cool slightly.

2. Mixing the dry ingredients: In a large bowl, sift the flour, baking powder, vanilla sugar, and cinnamon. This step will not only improve the dough's texture but also evenly distribute the spices.

3. Combining the ingredients: When the mixture in the saucepan has cooled enough not to burn when touched, pour it over the flour mixture. Add the lemon juice and lightly beaten egg, then mix well until you have a smooth dough. You might need to use your hands to knead the dough, ensuring there are no lumps.

4. Shaping the dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough with a rolling pin to a thickness of about 0.5 cm. Use desired shapes to cut out the cookies. If you wish, you can decorate them with granulated sugar before baking.

5. Baking: Preheat the oven to 180°C. Place the cut cookies on a greased baking tray (or lined with parchment paper) and bake for about 10 minutes. The cookies are ready when they turn slightly golden around the edges.

6. Cooling and glazing: Let them cool on a cooling rack. If you want to add a touch of elegance, you can glaze the cookies with a simple caramel glaze made from melted sugar with a bit of water until it becomes a thick syrup.

Helpful tips:
- If you want spicier gingerbread, add a pinch of ground ginger or cloves.
- You can double the recipe to get a larger amount of gingerbread, perfect for sharing with friends and family.
- Gingerbread keeps well in an airtight container, and the flavor intensifies as the days go by.

Serving suggestion: Serve gingerbread with a warm tea or spiced mulled wine. This combination will bring warmth and joy to winter evenings.

Enjoy making this gingerbread recipe and turn every bite into a sweet memory!
