Stuffed peppers are a traditional dish loved by everyone, and with this simple recipe, you will achieve a delicious result. Additionally, the sour cream sauce adds a creamy and savory touch that will delight your taste buds. Let's get started!
Ingredients:
- 1 kg of peppers (preferably bell peppers or sweet peppers)
- 500 g of minced meat (you can use pork, beef, or a mix)
- 150 g of rice (long grain rice is recommended)
- 5 tablespoons of sour cream (preferably full-fat sour cream for better texture)
- 200 ml of tomato juice (or crushed tomatoes)
- 1 medium onion
- 5 tablespoons of oil (olive oil adds a pleasant flavor)
- Salt, pepper, and paprika to taste
Preparation:
1. Preparing the peppers: Wash the peppers under cold running water, then carefully cut off the tops and remove the seeds. Make sure they remain whole so they can be filled. You can use peppers of different colors for a more attractive appearance.
2. Sauté the onion: Peel and finely chop the onion. In a large pan, add the 5 tablespoons of oil and heat it over low heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until it becomes translucent, about 5-7 minutes. This process will release the flavors from the onion and enhance the taste of the dish.
3. Preparing the filling: In a large bowl, combine the minced meat with the washed rice, sautéed onion, salt, pepper, and a pinch of paprika. Mix the ingredients well to obtain a homogeneous composition. The rice will cook during the baking of the peppers, so there is no need to boil it beforehand.
4. Fill the peppers: Using a spoon, fill each pepper with the meat and rice mixture. Do not fill the peppers to the brim, as the rice will expand during cooking.
5. Cooking the peppers: Place the stuffed peppers in a deep baking dish. Pour the tomato juice over them, ensuring they are well covered. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and place it in the preheated oven at 180°C. Let the peppers bake for 30 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for another 20 minutes, until they are browned.
6. Preparing the sour cream sauce: In the last 10 minutes of baking the peppers, in a small bowl, mix the sour cream with a little tomato juice and salt. This sauce will add a creamy note and will perfectly complement the taste of the peppers.
7. Serving: Serve the stuffed peppers hot, drizzled with the sour cream sauce. You can garnish with freshly chopped parsley for an extra touch of freshness. This dish pairs excellently with a green salad or a side of fresh bread.
Customized version: You can add chopped olives or feta cheese to the filling for a more intense flavor. Additionally, instead of rice, you can use quinoa for a healthier option.
This stuffed peppers dish with sour cream sauce is ideal for a family dinner or a festive meal. Enjoy your meal!
