If you're looking for a simple and tempting recipe, the fruit jam roll is the perfect choice! This delicacy combines a fluffy sponge with the tart sweetness of jam, creating a dessert that will impress anyone. Whether you serve it at a festive meal or as a sweet snack for the family, this recipe will bring smiles.
Ingredients:
- 4 eggs
- 120 g sugar
- 120 g flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- A pinch of salt
- 200 g fruit jam (preferably apricot, plum, or raspberry)
- Powdered sugar for decoration
Instructions:
1. Preparing the sponge: Preheat the oven to 180°C. Prepare a baking tray (approximately 30x40 cm) lined with parchment paper, ensuring the edges are covered to prevent sticking.
2. Beat the eggs: In a large bowl, beat the eggs with the sugar using an electric mixer. Continue mixing until the mixture becomes frothy and doubles in volume, about 5-7 minutes. This is a key step to achieving a fluffy sponge!
3. Add the dry ingredients: Sift the flour, baking powder, and salt over the beaten egg mixture. Use a spatula to gently fold in the ingredients, mixing from the bottom up to preserve the air in the mixture.
4. Baking the sponge: Pour the batter into the prepared tray and level the surface with a spatula. Place the tray in the preheated oven and bake for 10-12 minutes, until the sponge is golden and elastic to the touch.
5. Cooling and filling: Once baked, remove the sponge from the oven and carefully turn it onto a clean kitchen towel, removing the parchment paper. Let it cool for a few minutes, then spread the jam evenly over the surface of the sponge. This can be adapted based on preferences, using berry jam for a more intense flavor or apricot jam for a more delicate aroma.
6. Forming the roll: Start rolling the sponge from one edge, using the towel to help maintain its shape. Gently tighten without pressing too hard to avoid damaging the roll. Once you finish rolling, wrap the roll in plastic wrap and refrigerate to chill thoroughly for at least 30 minutes.
7. Serving: Remove the roll from the refrigerator and cut it into thick slices. Dust powdered sugar on top for an elegant look. This fruit jam roll pairs perfectly with a scoop of ice cream or a cup of fragrant tea.
Helpful tips:
- You can experiment with different types of jam, such as berry jam or even a combination of jams for a burst of flavors.
- If you want a chocolate roll, you can add a few tablespoons of cocoa to the batter.
- Make sure the sponge is completely cooled before filling it; otherwise, the jam will melt and make the roll soggy.
This fruit jam roll recipe is not only simple and quick but also extremely versatile. So gather your ingredients and prepare this delicacy that will surely become your favorite! Bon appétit!
1. Separate the egg whites from the 4 eggs into a bowl, and put the yolks together with the sugar. 2. First, beat the yolks with the sugar in their bowl, leaving them aside while you whip the egg whites separately. Once the egg whites are whipped, add the yolks with the sugar over the whipped egg whites, flour, and about half a vial of your preferred essence (I used vanilla). Mix well. 3. Pour the mixture into a baking tray greased with oil and dusted with flour, or better yet, try using parchment paper (be careful with the tray; it should be the right size so that when you pour the mixture in, you can shake it to cover the bottom). My tray measures 29x42 cm. 4. Place the tray in the oven at 175 degrees Celsius and bake for about 10-15 minutes (be cautious as it cooks quickly; poke it with a toothpick after the first 8-10 minutes). 5. Once you gently detach it from the tray, turn it onto a damp towel and spread it with jam, jelly, or chocolate cream. Don’t skimp on the filling, especially since the jam seeps into the dough, but don’t overdo it either. Then, start rolling it gently, occasionally using the damp towel for assistance. 6. Wrap it in aluminum foil and place it in the freezer. 7. In the meantime, I melted some pieces of cooking chocolate over steam. I put the melted chocolate into a piping bag and drizzled it over the roulade, which I had obviously taken out from the freezer. I also sprinkled some powdered sugar on top. The Jam Roulade recipe was suggested by Pocahontas on the recipe forum. It’s a very easy recipe for a jam roulade that is perfect alongside tea or coffee.
