Spicy Chicken Wings KFC Style

If you've ever wondered how to bring the delicious flavor of KFC's spicy wings into the comfort of your own home, you've come to the right place! This recipe will not only satisfy your cravings but also bring you the joy of cooking. Let's get started!

A Little Story

Spicy chicken wings have become a crowd favorite over the years, served in various styles around the world. This recipe is inspired by the famous KFC wings but with a personal twist. When my friend Mada started having unusual cravings during her pregnancy, we decided to venture into the kitchen and recreate this iconic dish. It was a fun experience, and most importantly, the result was absolutely delicious!

Preparation Time

- Preparation time: 20 minutes
- Marinating time: 3-4 hours
- Cooking time: 10 minutes
- Total: Approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes
- Servings: 4 servings

Ingredients

- 12 chicken wings (approximately 800 g)
- 1 egg
- 250 ml milk
- 1 cup of flour (or 1 bag of crushed cornflakes)
- 3 teaspoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Vegeta
- 1 ½ teaspoons salt
- Oil for frying (approximately 1 liter)

Step by Step

1. Preparing the wings:
- Start by washing the chicken wings well and cutting them into three parts, removing the tips.
- In a large pot, add the wings and cover them with 2 cups of cold water. Add garlic powder, Vegeta, and salt. Mix well and let them marinate in the fridge for 3-4 hours. This marinating will help intensify the flavors and tenderize the meat.

2. Boiling the wings:
- After marinating, place the pot on the stove and boil the wings for 10 minutes from the moment the water starts to boil. This will help cook the meat evenly.
- After boiling, drain the wings and let them cool slightly. Place them on paper towels to absorb excess water.

3. Preparing the coating mixture:
- In a bowl, beat the egg and add the milk, mixing well to combine.
- In another bowl or container with a lid, combine the flour with chili powder, garlic powder, and salt. Mix well to evenly distribute the spices.

4. Coating the wings:
- Dipping the wings in the coating ingredients is essential for achieving a crispy crust. Start by dipping each wing in the flour mixture, then in the egg and milk mixture, and back into the flour. You can use crushed cornflakes here for extra crunch, just like at KFC!
- Place the wings in the flour container, cover with the lid, and shake well to coat them evenly.

5. Frying the wings:
- Heat the oil in a deep skillet until it reaches the optimal temperature. It is important for the oil to be well heated to achieve a golden and crispy crust.
- Fry 6 wings at a time on high heat for 3 minutes (if frying in a skillet, leave them for 4 minutes).
- Remove the wings to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.

6. Serving:
- Let the wings cool slightly for about 10 minutes. They can be served hot or cold and remain crispy for 2-3 hours after preparation. They are perfect for a family dinner or a party with friends.

Practical Tips

- For an even more intense flavor: You can add a few drops of soy sauce or hot sauce to the marinade.
- Serving: These wings go wonderfully with ranch dressing or a spicy pepper sauce. Add a fresh salad or fries to complete the meal.
- Variations: If you prefer a sweeter taste, you can add honey to the marinade mix. This will provide a pleasant contrast between spicy and sweet.
- Complementary recipes: These wings pair perfectly with a cold beer or a summer cocktail. You can also try a side of grilled vegetables or coleslaw for added freshness.

Nutritional Information

- Estimated calories (per serving): 400-500 calories, depending on the frying method and ingredients used.
- Nutritional benefits: Chicken wings are an excellent source of protein, and using spices like chili and garlic provides antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Frequently Asked Questions

- Can I use frozen wings? Yes, but make sure to completely thaw them before marinating.
- Can I bake them instead of frying? Yes, you can bake the wings at 200°C for 25-30 minutes, turning them halfway through for even browning.
- How can I store the wings? They can be stored in the fridge for 2-3 days, but it's best to consume them immediately to maintain their crispy texture.

Now that you have all the necessary information, I encourage you to try this KFC-style spicy wings recipe at home! May every bite be an explosion of flavors and a moment of joy for you and your loved ones!

The wings are cut into 3 pieces, and the tips are discarded. They are washed well and placed in a pot. They are covered with 2 cups of cold water in which 1/2 teaspoon of granulated garlic, 1 teaspoon of Vegeta, and 1 teaspoon of salt are dissolved. They are left in the fridge for 3-4 hours. The pot is put on the heat and the wings are boiled for 10 minutes (from the moment the water starts to boil). They are then drained and after cooling slightly, placed on paper towels to dry well on the outside. In a bowl, beat the egg, then add the milk and mix well. In another bowl/container with a lid, mix the flour with chili, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1/2 teaspoon of granulated garlic. Mix well. Each wing is dipped in the flour mixture, then in the milk mixture, and again in the flour mixture (here the wings can be coated with crushed cornflakes; they will turn out MUCH CRISPIER, just like at KFC stores). The wings are placed in the flour container, covered with the lid, and then shaken until the wings are well coated. Heat a deep pan with the contents of a bottle of oil. The oil must be well heated! Place 6 wings at a time and fry on maximum heat, using a sieve placed over the pan, for exactly 3 minutes (if fried in the pan, they will take 4 minutes). Remove to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb the fat. Let the wings cool for at least 10 minutes. They can be served warm or cold. They remain crispy for about 2-3 hours after being prepared. PS: YES! They are very good! 99% like those from KFC!
