Baklava

Ingredients: 1 package of pastry sheets, 150g margarine, 250g ground walnuts, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 200g sugar, 120g honey, 200ml water, vanilla or rum essence.

To prepare a delicious baklava, it is important to follow each step carefully so that the final result meets your expectations. We start by preparing the necessary ingredients and ensuring we have all the tools at hand. The phyllo dough will be divided into three equal parts, each part having an essential role in the delicious layers of the baklava.

The ground nuts, which will add a rich flavor and a crunchy texture, are mixed with cinnamon. This combination will be divided into two equal parts so that we achieve an even flavor throughout the baklava. Meanwhile, the margarine will be heated over low heat until completely melted, being careful not to let it boil.

A baking tray is generously greased with oil, and the first sheet of phyllo is carefully placed in the tray. It should be brushed with melted margarine, and this process is repeated until the first third of the sheets is completely used. Over this thin layer, the mixture of nuts and cinnamon is sprinkled, ensuring that we distribute the ingredients evenly to achieve an intense flavor in every bite.

We continue with the second third of the sheets, applying the same method: we lay the sheets, brush them with melted margarine, and sprinkle the other half of the ground nuts. The last third of the sheets is placed at the end, each sheet being well brushed to ensure a crunchy texture. After we finish, we cover the tray with plastic wrap and put it in the fridge for 30-40 minutes, allowing the ingredients to settle and combine.

After this interval, we take the tray out of the fridge and cut the baklava into cubes or diamonds, as preferred. We preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius and insert the tray. The baklava will bake for 20-25 minutes until it becomes golden and crunchy.

Meanwhile, we prepare the syrup. In a saucepan, we mix water with sugar and put it over low heat. When the mixture starts to boil, we add honey, allowing the composition to reach the boiling point again. When the syrup is ready, we turn off the heat and add vanilla essence or rum. When the baklava is baked, we take it out of the oven and pour the hot syrup over it, letting it absorb the aromatic syrup.

Finally, we let the baklava cool completely before serving it, allowing the flavors to develop fully. This delicacy is served cold, perfect for any occasion. Enjoy every piece of this wonderful baklava!
