Apple pie
Apple pie is a classic dessert, ideal for fasting days, but it will delight with its delicious taste and inviting aroma. In this simple recipe, we will use pastry sheets, fresh apples, and a dash of cinnamon, all united in a perfect combination. This apple pie recipe is not only easy to prepare but also quick, making it perfect for any occasion.
Preparation time: 30 minutes
Baking time: 45 minutes
Total time: 1 hour 15 minutes
Number of servings: 8
Ingredients:
- 1 package of pastry sheets (450 g)
- Oil for greasing the sheets (or melted butter if you are not fasting)
- Approximately 1 kg of apples (preferably sour apples)
- 2 teaspoons of cinnamon
- Margarine the size of a walnut
- 6 tablespoons of sugar
Preparing the apple pie:
1. Preparing the apples: Start by peeling the apples and grating them on a large grater. This step is essential as the grated apples will cook evenly and better incorporate the flavors. Mix them with 6 tablespoons of sugar and 2 teaspoons of cinnamon, then place them in a pan over medium heat. Add the margarine and let them sauté for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally. When the apples become soft and fragrant, turn off the heat and let the mixture cool.
2. Preparing the pastry sheets: While the apples cool, preheat the oven to 180°C. Cut the pastry sheets according to the size of your baking tray (for example, 33/23 cm). I recommend using 4 layers of sheets, each made of 4 sheets.
3. Assembling the pie: Grease each sheet with oil or melted butter (if you are not fasting) and place the sheets in the greased tray. Alternatively, you can use a cooking spray to make the process simpler. Start with a layer of 4 greased sheets, followed by a layer of sautéed apples. Continue with another 4 greased sheets, another layer of apples, and repeat the process until you have used all the ingredients.
4. Baking: Once the pie is assembled, place it in the oven for about 45 minutes or until it becomes golden and crispy. It is important to ensure that the sheets are well baked and that the apple mixture is evenly distributed.
5. Preparing the syrup: While the pie is in the oven, prepare a simple syrup from 100 ml of water, 2 tablespoons of sugar, and vanilla essence. Mix the ingredients in a small saucepan and bring them to a boil. After the sugar has dissolved, let the syrup simmer on low heat for a few minutes.
6. Finishing: After the pie is ready, pour the warm syrup over it. This will add moisture and an extra layer of flavor. Allow the pie to cool completely before cutting it into servings.
7. Serving: The apple pie is served with powdered sugar on top for an elegant look and a sweet-sour taste. It can be enjoyed both warm and cold, alongside a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a spoonful of plant-based cream for a delicious contrast.
Suggestions and variations: You can add chopped nuts or raisins to the apple filling for an interesting texture. Additionally, if you like a more intense flavor, you can try adding a splash of lemon juice over the grated apples to enhance their aroma.
