Step by Step: Preparing the Adelina Cake
1. Preparing the Base
Start by separating the egg whites from the yolks. This step is essential for achieving a fluffy texture. In a bowl, beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt until they form a foam. This will help aerate the mixture.
In another bowl, mix the egg yolks with the sugar, oil, and vanilla sugar until they become a light-colored foam. Here, you can add the yogurt, which will provide moisture and a subtle flavor.
Add the flour and baking powder and gently mix with a silicone spatula or a whisk to avoid deflating the mixture. Finally, fold in the beaten egg whites, mixing from the bottom up to maintain the aeration.
2. Creating the Striped Base
Divide the mixture into two equal parts. In one of them, add 2 tablespoons of Nesquik, mixing well. Now you have two mixtures: one white and one brown.
Prepare a rectangular baking tray by lining it with parchment paper. Start placing a tablespoon of each mixture in the tray, alternating colors until both mixtures are finished.
Use a knife to create a zebra effect by gently swiping it from side to side, bottom to top. Now, the cake is ready to go into the oven. Bake at 180°C for 20 minutes, checking with a toothpick to see if it’s baked in the center.
3. Preparing the Creams
While the base is baking, you can prepare the two creams.
Vanilla Cream: In a saucepan, heat the cream and milk. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs with the sugar, vanilla, and cornstarch. Add the egg mixture to the warm milk, stirring constantly. Cook over medium heat, stirring continuously until you obtain a creamy mixture. If lumps form, don’t hesitate to use an immersion blender to achieve a smooth texture. Once ready, transfer the cream to a bowl and add the butter, mixing until melted. Let it cool.
Strawberry Cream: In a saucepan, combine the milk with the cream and add the pudding packet. Cook over low heat, stirring continuously until it thickens. Transfer to a bowl and add the butter, mixing to obtain a smooth cream. Let it cool as well.
4. Assembling the Cake
Once the base has completely cooled, place it on a platter. Spread the vanilla cream evenly, followed by the strawberry cream.
For an attractive appearance, decorate with grated or melted chocolate on top. This detail will not only enhance the flavor but also add a pleasing visual contrast.
5. Refrigeration
Leave the cake in the fridge for a few hours to set and allow the flavors to meld. The longer you leave it, the more delicious it will be.
Helpful Tip
If you want to make the strawberry cream 100% from scratch, use fresh strawberries that you boil with sugar and lemon juice. Blend them to create a delicious sauce to add to the vanilla cream.
Nutritional Benefits
This cake is not just a sweet treat; the yogurt in the base provides probiotics, while the creams with milk and eggs offer essential proteins. However, it’s important to consume it in moderation, given the sugar content.
