To prepare these dumplings, you will need the following ingredients: 500 g of fresh strawberries, 250 g of flour, 200 g of cottage cheese, 1 egg, 50 g of sugar, a pinch of salt, and 1 teaspoon of baking powder. These simple ingredients transform into a refined and tasty dessert.

The first step is to wash the strawberries well, remove the stems, and then cut them in halves or quarters, depending on their size. Place the strawberries in a bowl and sprinkle a few tablespoons of sugar on top to enhance their aroma and let them release their juices. Set them aside to marinate while you prepare the dough.

For the dough, mix the cottage cheese with the egg, sugar, and a pinch of salt in another bowl. Use a fork or a mixer to obtain a homogeneous mixture. Gradually add the flour and baking powder, mixing until you get a soft dough that is easy to shape. If the dough is too sticky, you can add a little more flour.

Once you have prepared the dough, bring water to a boil in a large pot, and when it starts boiling, reduce the heat to medium. With wet hands, take a portion of dough and flatten it in your palm, add a few pieces of strawberries in the center, and close the dough around them, forming a ball. Continue this process until you finish all the dough and strawberries.

Carefully place the dumplings in the boiling water and let them cook for about 5-7 minutes until they rise to the surface. This is a sign that they are ready! Remove them with a slotted spoon and place them on a platter.

With wet hands, the dough is spread on the palm of the hand, a strawberry is placed in the middle, folded, and the dumplings are shaped by gently pressing and rolling the dough between the palms. All the dumplings are added at once into the boiling water and gently boiled for 10 minutes. In a small pan, the remaining butter is heated, breadcrumbs and granulated sugar are added. The breadcrumbs are lightly browned, stirring constantly to avoid caramelization. The dumplings are removed with a slotted spoon from the boiling water and rolled in the browned breadcrumbs. They are placed on a platter, and the remaining breadcrumbs are sprinkled on top. Lightly dust with powdered sugar and cinnamon. Placed two in a plate, the strawberry dumplings are served with 2-3 fresh strawberries on the side, or with whipped strawberries, or with strawberry jam... They represent the second course at a meal, so we cannot correctly call them pastries.
