We bring a pot with approximately 2 liters of water to a boil, ensuring that it will be enough to cook the dumplings. In a large bowl, we mix the flour with 150 ml of water, adjusting the amount of water as necessary until we obtain a soft, gummy, and slightly sticky dough. It is important that the texture of the dough is appropriate, as this will influence the appearance and taste of the dumplings. Using a spoon, we take portions of dough and form dumplings, being careful to give them as uniform a shape as possible.

To prevent the dumplings from sticking to the bottom of the pot, we dip the spoon in the boiling water before taking each portion of dough. This simple trick will help us have beautiful dumplings without imperfections. We place the dumplings in the boiling water, one by one, continuing until we finish all the dough. We boil the dumplings over low heat, stirring occasionally to ensure they do not stick together or to the bottom of the pot. When the dumplings rise to the surface, it is a sign that they are almost ready, but it is best to taste them to check the consistency.

In the meantime, we take care of preparing the caramel. We place the sugar in a pot over very low heat and patiently wait for it to melt, transforming into a fruity liquid with a pleasant golden color. We carefully add a little warm water from the pot in which the dumplings are boiling, stirring constantly to ensure that the caramelized sugar dissolves evenly. After obtaining a sauce of the desired consistency, we add the coconut milk, continuing to stir well. We let it simmer for a bit, to allow the flavors to combine.

To thicken the sauce, we mix the flour or starch with a little cold water, obtaining a homogeneous paste that we will incorporate into the caramel sauce. We let it simmer over low heat, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens slightly. When the dumplings are cooked, we remove them from the water using a slotted spatula and transfer them to the caramel sauce, allowing them to absorb the flavors for a few minutes. It is a delicious combination that will impress anyone who tastes it.

For a simple version, we can skip the caramel and, instead of it, add the flour or starch dissolved in cold water to the water in which the dumplings boiled. We mix well and let it boil until the sauce thickens. Another interesting variant is the one with cocoa; in this case, we proceed as above, adding cocoa to the starch or flour mixture to obtain a sauce with a rich taste and a darker color. Regardless of the choice made, the dumplings will be tasty and will bring a smile to the faces of those who savor them.
