Glass cookies
This delicious star-shaped cookie recipe is perfect for bringing a touch of magic to your holidays. We start by preparing the dough, an essential step to achieve the perfect texture. In a large bowl, we mix the flour with sugar, soft butter, the egg, salt, grated lemon zest, and baking powder. These ingredients combine harmoniously, and the smell of lemon will immediately fill the kitchen, evoking pleasant Christmas memories.
After mixing well, we ensure we have a homogeneous dough that easily detaches from the sides of the bowl. The resulting dough is carefully wrapped in plastic wrap and placed in the refrigerator for at least 20 minutes. This resting period is crucial as it helps to firm up the dough, making it easier to shape later.
While the dough cools, we can take care of the colorful candies. Choose candies of different colors and flavors to add a splash of cheer and color to the cookies. Using a meat mallet, crush the candies into smaller pieces. They will melt during baking, creating a delicious and colorful center for our stars.
Once the resting time is up, take the dough out of the refrigerator and on a floured surface, start rolling it out evenly until it reaches a thickness of about 5 mm. Use a large star-shaped cutter to cut out the cookies, and then, with the help of smaller cutters, cut out the center of each star. Place the cookies on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and put a piece of crushed candy in the center of each star.
If you want to hang these cookies on the Christmas tree, use a toothpick to make a small hole at the top of each star. Then, preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius and place the tray inside. Bake the cookies until they turn golden, being careful not to leave them too long as they can become too crunchy.
Once the cookies are ready, let them cool on the tray, as they detach more easily this way. Once cooled, thread a thin string or thread through each hole and get ready to hang them on the Christmas tree. These stars are truly delicious the next day when the flavors meld perfectly, and the texture becomes softer. They will surely bring a smile to the faces of your loved ones. Wishing you happy and joyful holidays!
