Apples in Dough
Stuffed apples with jam are a delicious and comforting dessert, perfect for chilly autumn or winter days. We start by peeling the apples, choosing medium-sized ones that are firm and fragrant. We use a small sharp knife to core the apples, being careful not to damage their walls so we can add our favorite jam inside. You can opt for plum, apricot, or even raspberry jam, depending on your taste. A teaspoon of jam is enough, but if you're a sweet tooth, feel free to add more!
After we fill the apples with jam, we dust them with cinnamon, which will give them an inviting aroma and warm flavor. Now we turn our attention to the dough. In a large bowl, we beat a few eggs, add flour and soft butter, which will make the dough tender and tasty. We add a packet of vanilla sugar and a few drops of vanilla essence to enhance the flavor. We knead the dough well until it becomes homogeneous and elastic. It is important not to over-knead so that we do not get a dough that is too tough.
Once the dough is ready, we roll it out on a floured surface, forming a thin sheet, about 3-4 mm thick. From this, we cut strips 2-3 cm wide, which will be used to wrap the apples. Each stuffed apple will be dressed in these strips of dough, making sure to cover the bottom well to prevent the jam from leaking during baking.
We preheat the oven to a low temperature to allow the apples to bake evenly. We grease a baking tray with butter and carefully place the apples in it, leaving a little space between them. We will bake them for about an hour, starting at a low heat, and then, when the dough begins to brown, we will raise the temperature to a suitable level. This process will ensure a crispy texture of the dough.
After we take them out of the oven, we let the apples cool slightly, then we decorate them with melted sugar, creating a shiny and appetizing crust. Finally, we dust with powdered sugar to add a touch of elegance. Served warm, these jam-stuffed apples become an unforgettable dessert, perfect to be enjoyed alongside a scoop of ice cream or a steaming cup of tea.
