Savory Stuffed Appetizer Bread

When it comes to appetizers, nothing compares to a warm and aromatic appetizer bread, perfect for serving on any occasion. This simple and quick recipe will turn your meal into a true feast, and the combination of flavors will surely impress all your guests.

Preparation time: 30 minutes
Baking time: 40-45 minutes
Total time: 1 hour and 15 minutes
Number of servings: 12

Ingredients:
- 500 g all-purpose flour (sifted for a fine texture)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 250 ml lukewarm water (not hot, to avoid killing the yeast)
- 100 g sour cream (or heavy cream)
- 1 large egg (at room temperature for better incorporation)
- 25 g fresh yeast (or 7 g dry yeast)
- 200 g filling (salty cheese, ham, dill, mushrooms, or even a mix of grilled vegetables)
- Oil for greasing the pan

Preparation:

1. Start by sifting the flour into a large bowl. Add the salt and mix gently. It is essential to sift the flour as this process helps aerate it and achieve a finer texture in the final dough.

2. In another bowl, warm the lukewarm water, then add the sour cream and egg. Mix well until you obtain a homogeneous mixture. The sour cream will add a pleasant creaminess and delicious flavor to the bread.

3. Sprinkle the yeast into the water mixture and let it dissolve for 5-10 minutes. It is important to ensure that the yeast is active; if the mixture does not become frothy, it would be wise to try with fresh yeast.

4. Pour the obtained liquid over the flour, mixing slowly with a spatula or your hands until the ingredients are completely combined. Here, it is essential not to neglect the salt, as it will contribute to the final texture of the bread.

5. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until it becomes elastic and smooth. If the dough is too sticky, you can add a little more flour. This is an ideal moment to add your personal touch by incorporating spices or herbs into the dough!

6. Place the dough in a bowl greased with a little oil, cover it with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 30 minutes, or until it doubles in volume.

7. Once the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface, forming a rectangle. Spread the chosen filling evenly over the entire surface of the dough. Make sure the filling is not too wet, as it could affect the final texture of the bread.

8. Roll the dough tightly, forming a cylinder. Carefully place it in a greased pan. Cover it again and let it rise for another 15-20 minutes.

9. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and bake the bread for 40-45 minutes, or until it turns golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped. You can brush it with a beaten egg for a shiny crust.

10. Let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a rack to cool completely.

Serving suggestion: Slice the appetizer bread and serve it warm, alongside a fresh green salad or a portion of yogurt sauce.

Possible variations: You can experiment with various fillings, such as spinach and feta cheese, or even a combination of ground meat and vegetables. You can also add spices like oregano or basil for an extra flavor boost.

This appetizer bread is perfect for parties, picnics, or simply to be enjoyed with loved ones. It will surely become a staple recipe in your culinary repertoire!
