Mackerel Fillets in Tomato Sauce
To prepare a delicious and healthy meal, we start by gathering all the necessary ingredients. In a deep baking dish, we carefully place the fish, which can be white fish fillets such as cod or trout, or even a whole fish, depending on preferences. We drizzle a bit of olive oil over the fish, making sure it is evenly coated to give it a rich flavor and juicy texture.
Next, we focus on the sauce that will add flavor to our dish. We choose a quality tomato juice or broth, which we dilute with a little water to achieve the ideal consistency. We add our favorite spices to this mixture, which may include salt, pepper, oregano, basil, or even chili for a spicier taste. We mix well so that all the flavors blend harmoniously.
After preparing the sauce, we carefully pour it over the fish, ensuring it is well covered. The next step is to deal with the onion. We slice the onion into thin rings or cubes, depending on preferences, and sprinkle it over the fish. The onion will add a sweet and sour taste and contribute to the overall aroma of the dish.
We cover the baking dish with aluminum foil to retain moisture and allow the fish to cook evenly. We preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius and place the dish in the oven. The cooking time will vary depending on the type of fish used. If we have chosen frozen fish, it will take about 30-40 minutes to cook completely. In contrast, for fresh fish, 20-25 minutes will be sufficient.
Five to seven minutes before removing the dish from the oven, we remove the aluminum foil. This step will allow the fish to brown and develop a delicious crust, adding extra flavor to the dish. Once the fish is ready and appetizing, we take it out of the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
We serve this simple and tasty dish alongside a side of steamed vegetables or a fresh salad. Enjoy your meal!
