Hot Dog Buns
To prepare these delicious rolls, we start by activating the yeast, an essential ingredient that will bring our dough to life. Mix the yeast with sugar and warm milk in a deep container, being careful not to make it too hot, as excessive heat can destroy the yeast. This mixture will form a foam that will indicate whether the yeast is active. Once you see this foam, pour the mixture into a well made in the sifted flour, leaving enough space to avoid crowding.
Using a spoon, gently mix the ingredients to form a starter. Cover the starter with a little flour, then cover the bowl with a clean towel or lid and let it sit in a warm place for 5-10 minutes. During this time, the starter will begin to rise, and its aroma will fill the kitchen.
After the starter has risen, add the salt, beaten egg, warm milk, and sparkling water, as well as the melted butter. It is important to add these ingredients gradually, mixing well to obtain a homogeneous dough. Start kneading the dough, paying special attention to the texture. The dough is considered well-kneaded when it no longer sticks to your hands; if it continues to stick, you can add a tablespoon of flour.
After kneading the dough, place it in a covered bowl and let it rise in a warm place until it doubles in volume. Once the dough has risen, divide it into 9-10 equal pieces. Each piece will be shaped into thicker sticks or rolls, depending on your preferences. If you wish, you can fill the rolls with cheese or other delicious fillings, which will add a surprising taste and texture.
Place the rolls or sticks on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, leaving enough space between them to allow for expansion during baking. Score each roll with a sharp knife to allow steam to escape during baking. Let them rise again for about 30 minutes.
Before placing them in the preheated electric oven at 200 degrees Celsius, do not brush them with anything. Bake them for 20 minutes or until they become golden and fluffy. After taking them out of the oven, immediately brush them with melted butter and cover them with a plastic wrap or parchment paper to retain their moisture. This way, the rolls will become extremely tender and fluffy, staying fresh for several days. These rolls are perfect for breakfast or as appetizers, adding a touch of flavor to your meal!
