If you're looking for a simple and quick recipe to impress your family and friends, cereal baguettes are the perfect choice! This recipe combines the enticing aroma of freshly baked bread with the crunchy texture of cereals, creating a dish that not only looks great but is also incredibly tasty. I will provide you with a step-by-step guide to achieve perfectly baked baguettes that will be the stars of your table!

Preparation time: 15 minutes
Rising time: 30 minutes
Baking time: 30 minutes
Total time: 1 hour and 15 minutes
Servings: 3 baguettes

Necessary ingredients

- 1 kg flour (preferably bread flour with a high gluten content)
- 30 g fresh yeast or 10 g dry yeast
- 50 g butter (melted, at room temperature)
- 20 g salt
- 30 g sugar
- 550 g warm water (about 37°C)

Cereals for decoration:

- 2 tablespoons pumpkin seeds
- 2 tablespoons poppy seeds
- 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
- 2 tablespoons rolled oats

Filling (optional):

- ½ cup walnut halves (crumbled)
- ½ cup dried plums (sliced)

Step 1: Preparing the dough

Start by dissolving the yeast in the warm water, adding the sugar and salt. These ingredients are essential for activating the yeast, which will help the bread rise beautifully. Then, add the melted butter, which will provide a soft texture and delicious flavor to the baguettes.

As you mix, gradually add the sifted flour. It’s important not to add too much flour at the beginning, as we want a light and slightly sticky dough. If you feel the dough is becoming too wet, you can add a little more flour as you go.

Step 2: Kneading and rising

Once you have a fairly soft dough, knead it gently for a few minutes, then transfer it to a bowl greased with a little oil. Cover the bowl with a clean towel and let it rise in a warm place, away from drafts, for 30 minutes. A good idea is to place it in an oven preheated to 45°C, where it will have a warm and favorable environment for rising.

Step 3: Shaping the baguettes

After the dough has doubled in volume, divide it into three equal parts, each weighing about 550 g. Take each piece of dough and form a ball, then roll it out into a circle with a diameter of about 28 cm. If you wish to add filling, now is the time! Sprinkle the walnut halves and dried plums on the dough circle, then carefully roll it up to shape the baguette.

Step 4: Decorating the baguettes

After shaping the baguettes, brush the top with a little water or milk. This step is important as it will help the cereals adhere better. Pour the cereal mixture onto the table and roll the baguette in it, making sure to coat it evenly. This crunchy layer will add a pleasant texture and an appetizing appearance.

Step 5: Final rising and baking

Transfer the baguettes to a greased baking tray, leaving a little space between them. Cover them again with a clean towel and let them rise in the preheated oven at 45°C for 20-30 minutes, until they double in volume again.

Preheat the oven to 220°C. Bake the baguettes for 25-30 minutes, monitoring the time according to your oven. The baguettes are ready when they are golden and sound hollow when tapped gently on the bottom.

Useful tips

- Choose the right flour: Flour with a high gluten content will help the baguettes have a fluffier texture.
- Water temperature: Make sure the water is warm, not hot, to avoid killing the yeast.
- Filling varieties: You can experiment with other fillings, such as olives or cheese, to customize the baguettes to your taste.

Delicious combinations

These cereal baguettes pair perfectly with various dishes. You can serve them warm alongside a tomato sauce or a creamy soup, or use them to make delicious sandwiches. They are also excellent for a healthy breakfast, served with butter and fruit jam.

Calories and nutritional benefits

Each baguette contains approximately 250-300 calories, depending on the filling and the amount of cereals used. These baguettes are a good source of complex carbohydrates, protein, and fiber, thanks to the added cereals.

Frequently asked questions

- Can I use dry yeast? Yes, you can replace fresh yeast with dry yeast, using one-third of the specified amount.
- How do I store the baguettes to prevent them from drying out? Store them in an airtight container at room temperature, or you can freeze the baguettes for longer storage.
