In a cauldron, we begin to prepare a traditional Romanian recipe that cannot be missing from any holiday meal: bulz with bacon and egg. The first step is to put water to boil. We add a teaspoon of salt and a tablespoon of cornmeal to give it a special taste. When the water starts to boil with an energetic simmer, we pour the cornmeal in a rain, constantly stirring with a whisk to avoid lumps. It is essential to achieve a polenta of perfect consistency, neither too soft nor too hard. After mixing well, we turn the polenta onto a platter and let it cool so that we can handle it easily with our hands.

In the meantime, we take care of the bacon. We cut it into thin slices and brown it in a non-stick pan without oil to preserve its natural flavor. It is important to cook it over medium heat so that it becomes crispy but does not dry out. In parallel, we can start on the eggs. We prepare some fried eggs, which will add a rich flavor and a delicate texture to our bulz.

After the polenta has cooled sufficiently, we break it into three pieces or, if we want to make more bulz, we can use a larger piece. We take the first piece of polenta and gently stretch it with our hands, forming a disc. We generously sprinkle grated cheese with large holes, add a few slices of browned bacon, and form a ball, which we flatten slightly. We proceed the same way with the other pieces of polenta, making sure that each bulz has the savory filling we desire.

We preheat the oven to a moderate temperature and prepare a tray lined with baking paper. We carefully place the bulz in the tray, and on top of each portion, we put a fried egg and sprinkle a dash of cheese for an extra flavor. We place the tray in the preheated oven and let them bake for 10-15 minutes, until they become golden and slightly crispy.

When the bulz are ready, we take them out of the oven and let them cool for 2-3 minutes. These delicious bulz can be served plain, but for an extra flavor, we recommend them with fresh sour cream. Enjoy this delicious recipe with your loved ones and savor the flavors and traditions of Romania!
