Pasta with Tuna and Shrimp
We start by preparing the necessary ingredients for this delicious recipe. In a large skillet, we heat the olive oil over medium heat. While we wait for the oil to reach the optimal temperature, we take care of the onion. We wash the onion, peel it, and slice it into thin rings so that it cooks evenly. Once the oil is hot, we add the onion to the skillet and let it sauté, stirring occasionally, until it becomes slightly golden and starts to release its enticing aroma.
During this stage, we can take care of the shrimp. It is recommended to use fresh or thawed shrimp, which we wash well under cold running water. Once the onion has browned slightly, we add the shrimp to the skillet. They will cook quickly, so there is no need to leave them on the heat for too long. If we want to optimize our time, we can also prepare the pasta. So, we put a pot of water and salt on the stove to boil the pasta according to the package instructions.
After the shrimp have started to turn opaque and change color, we add the fresh tomatoes sliced into rings. These will add a sweet and sour taste to the dish and contribute to a richer texture. We let the tomatoes sauté together with the shrimp and onion for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Once the tomatoes have softened, we add the canned tuna, drained of juice, and let the mixture heat well for another 5-7 minutes. At this point, we can start seasoning the dish. We add freshly ground pepper, vegeta, oregano, thyme, and crushed garlic. Personally, I prefer to add a tablespoon of each spice, but you can adjust the quantities according to your preferences. It is essential for the flavors to combine well, so we mix everything carefully.
Meanwhile, the pasta should be cooked al dente. We rinse it with cold water to stop the cooking process and then add it to the skillet, mixing it with the delicious sauce made from onion, shrimp, tomatoes, and tuna. Ensuring that the pasta is well coated with the sauce, we can serve the dish hot, sprinkled with fresh herbs if desired.
