Welcome to the fascinating world of pies! Today, we will prepare a spinach pie, a hearty and healthy dish, perfect for lunch or a light dinner. This simple recipe is sure to become a family favorite. Let's get started!
Ingredients:
- 500 g fresh or frozen spinach
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2-3 garlic cloves, crushed
- 1 bunch of fresh dill, chopped
- 2-3 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 eggs
- 200 g feta cheese or cottage cheese
- 1 package of phyllo dough (approximately 400 g)
- 50 g melted butter (optional, for a richer taste)
Instructions:
1. Start by preparing the spinach. If using fresh spinach, wash it well under running water and chop it roughly. If using frozen spinach, thaw it and drain any excess water.
2. In a large skillet, add the olive oil and sauté the chopped onion over medium heat until it becomes translucent, about 5-6 minutes. This will add a sweet and savory flavor to the pie.
3. Once the onion has softened, add the crushed garlic, chopped dill, and season with salt and pepper. Mix well, then add the spinach. Cook the mixture for 5-7 minutes until the spinach wilts and reduces in volume.
4. In a separate bowl, beat the 4 eggs. Add the crumbled feta cheese (or cottage cheese, if preferred) and mix well. This combination will add creaminess to the pie.
5. Incorporate the spinach mixture into the bowl with eggs and cheese. Mix everything well to achieve a uniform composition.
6. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, prepare a baking tray (approximately 30 cm x 20 cm) and grease it with a little melted butter or oil.
7. Place the first layer of phyllo dough in the tray, making sure the edges hang over the sides. Brush each sheet with a little melted butter or oil. Repeat this process for 3-4 sheets.
8. Pour the spinach and cheese mixture over the layer of dough, then cover with another 3-4 sheets, brushed the same way, ensuring the edges are well sealed.
9. Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until it becomes golden and crispy on top.
10. Once baked, let the pie cool for 10 minutes before cutting it into servings. Serve warm or at room temperature, alongside a fresh salad.
Helpful tips:
- If you want to add a touch of exoticism, try adding some black olives or toasted sesame seeds to the filling.
- This recipe is versatile; you can substitute spinach with other vegetables, such as nettles or ricotta cheese.
- The phyllo dough can be replaced with puff pastry for a fluffier version.
Now that you know how to prepare a delicious spinach pie, feel free to experiment with new ingredients and flavors. Enjoy every slice!
