Glazed Potatoes
To prepare a delicious baked potato side dish, we start by carefully peeling the potatoes, making sure to remove any impurities or unpleasant parts. Once the potatoes are clean, we shape them nicely by cutting them into slices or cubes, depending on preference. It is important to ensure that the sizes are uniform, so they cook evenly in the oven.
We prepare a heat-resistant dish that will withstand the high temperatures in the oven. We generously grease the dish with butter to prevent the potatoes from sticking and to add extra flavor. At the bottom of the dish, we place finely chopped shallots, which will add a subtle and aromatic taste to the dish. The shallots can be lightly sautéed in butter before adding the potatoes for an even more intense flavor.
After placing the shallots, we add the potatoes to the dish, taking care to distribute them evenly. It is time to add the beef broth, which will provide a rich and savory flavor. We pour the broth over the potatoes so that it covers about two-thirds of them, leaving some of the potatoes exposed to brown nicely at the end. We add a few pieces of butter on top, which will melt and combine with the sauce, giving a glossy and appetizing appearance to the dish.
We place the dish in the preheated oven at 200°C and carefully monitor the baking process. It is essential to baste the potatoes periodically with the sauce formed, to keep them moist and allow them to absorb the flavors from the broth and butter. After about 40-50 minutes, the potatoes should be cooked and glazed, and the sauce should have reduced, becoming a thick and tasty marinade.
Before serving, we sprinkle fresh or dried thyme on top, which will add an aromatic note and perfectly complement the dish. These glazed potatoes can be used as a side dish for various meals, from roasts to vegetable dishes. Enjoy your meal!
