Bread Croutons

To prepare delicious croutons, start by choosing a quality bread, which can be white bread, whole grain, or even a baguette. Cut the bread into thick slices of about 1-2 cm, depending on your preference. If you wish, you can remove the crust, but it adds a pleasant crunchy texture to the croutons. After cutting the bread, continue by cutting the slices into cubes or geometric shapes, such as diamonds or triangles, according to your imagination.

Place the bread cubes in a large tray, preferably one made of glass or metal, which allows for even heat distribution. Generously drizzle with good quality olive oil, making sure each piece of bread is coated. Mix with your hands or a spatula, ensuring that the oil reaches all sides of the cubes.

Now it's time to add the flavors. Sprinkle salt to taste, granulated garlic or fresh crushed garlic for a more intense flavor, and dried oregano or even fresh herbs if you have them on hand. Mix again, being careful that the spices are evenly distributed so that each crouton shares the same delicious flavors.

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Once the oven is ready, place the tray with the croutons inside. Bake for about 10-15 minutes, but remember to turn them 2-3 times during baking. This way, the croutons will brown evenly and will achieve a crunchy texture on all sides. Keep an eye on them, as the baking time may vary depending on the type of bread and the thickness of the cubes. When they become golden and crunchy, they are ready to be taken out of the oven.

Let the croutons cool slightly before serving. They can be enjoyed plain as a savory snack alongside a cold beer or fresh tomato juice. They are also excellent used in various dishes: add them to salads for extra texture, use them as a base for cheese and vegetable rolls, or drizzle them with cream soup to enhance the flavor. Croutons are versatile and can turn any meal into an unforgettable culinary experience.
