Preparation time: 30 minutes
Baking time: 30-35 minutes
Total time: 1 hour
Number of servings: 6
Ingredients:
- 500 g chicken breast, diced
- 2 large leeks, sliced thinly
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 300 ml chicken broth
- 200 ml cooking cream
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (optional)
- 1 package of puff pastry (about 400 g)
- 1 beaten egg, for brushing
Preparation:
1. Start by heating the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic, sautéing for 2-3 minutes until they become translucent and fragrant.
2. Add the diced chicken to the skillet and cook for 5-7 minutes, until lightly browned. Make sure to stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
3. Incorporate the leeks and continue cooking for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. The leeks should become soft and tender.
4. Add the chicken broth and cooking cream, mixing well. If you want a spicy flavor, now is the time to add the Dijon mustard. Let the mixture simmer on low heat for 10 minutes, until the sauce thickens slightly. Taste and season with salt and pepper to your liking.
5. Preheat the oven to 200°C (180°C for fan ovens).
6. Transfer the chicken and leek filling to a baking dish, spreading it evenly.
7. Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface, then cut it to completely cover the baking dish. Make sure the edges are well sealed to prevent leaks.
8. Brush the surface of the pastry with the beaten egg for a golden and glossy finish when baked.
9. Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and crispy.
Serving:
Once the pie is ready, let it cool for a few minutes before slicing. You can serve this delicious pie alongside a fresh green salad or pickles for a contrast of textures and flavors.
Helpful tips:
- You can add extra vegetables to the filling, such as carrots or peas, for added nutrients.
- For an even more intense flavor, you can use homemade chicken broth.
- If you don't have puff pastry, you can use a classic pie dough, but the texture will be different.
This chicken pie with leeks and puff pastry is a quick and simple recipe, perfect for any occasion. Try it and you'll discover a dish that will surely become a favorite in your home!
1. To begin with, the leek, celery, and carrot are sautéed in butter mixed with oil. Chicken meat is added as well. Once they are somewhat ready, a glass of wine and one of water (soup), flour, salt, pepper, and basil are added, along with a bit of milk and sour cream, and left to boil until the sauce is thick (stirring, of course). The dish can be served as is with a side or kept cold. 2. The pork sausages are skinned and made into small meatballs that are placed in a pan with or without oil, as you prefer, and fried. 3. The dough is cut to cover the dishes in which we will serve the pie, and an egg is beaten to brush the edge of the dishes (or dish). I used individual clay bowls, but you can put everything in a larger single dish. I added the leek and chicken mixture. I placed the meatballs on top, then put the dough lid, brushed with egg, and sprinkled a bit of sesame. When the dough is baked... it's ready! It can be served with the available puff pastry or, as Jamie recommends, with corn and mashed potatoes. Enjoy your meal!
