Preparation time: 45 minutes
Baking time: 50 minutes
Total time: 1 hour and 35 minutes
Number of servings: 12-16
Ingredients:
*For the vanilla cream:*
- 200 ml milk
- 4 tablespoons flour
- 250 g butter (at room temperature)
- 250 g sugar
- Flavoring of rum, vanilla or lemon (to taste)
*For the white sponge:*
- 4 eggs
- 4 tablespoons water
- 8 tablespoons sugar
- 8 tablespoons flour
- 1 packet baking powder
*For the cocoa sponges (2 portions):*
- 5 eggs
- 250 g flour
- 120 g butter (at room temperature)
- 120 g sugar
- 150 ml milk
- 3 tablespoons cocoa
- 1 packet baking soda (14 g)
*For soaking and filling:*
- 100 g jam (to taste)
- 100 ml fruit juice, milk, or liqueur
Preparation steps:
1. Preparing the vanilla cream:
- In a saucepan, mix the milk with the flour and heat over medium heat. Stir constantly until the mixture thickens and becomes similar to pudding. Once it reaches the desired consistency, remove from heat and let it cool.
- In a separate bowl, beat the butter with the sugar and your preferred flavoring (rum, vanilla, or lemon) until it becomes a fluffy cream. Once the milk and flour mixture has completely cooled, gradually add it to the butter mixture. Mix well until homogeneous, then place the cream in the fridge.
2. Preparing the white sponge:
- Separate the eggs into whites and yolks. Beat the egg whites with sugar and water until stiff peaks form. Gradually add the yolks, mixing continuously.
- Fold in the flour mixed with baking powder, gently mixing with a spatula to avoid losing air in the mixture.
- Pour the mixture into a 25x35 cm baking pan lined with parchment paper and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 20-25 minutes. After baking, remove the sponge and let it cool.
3. Preparing the cocoa sponges:
- Follow the same procedure as for the white sponge, but this time add the butter, cocoa, and flour alternately with the milk to the yolks. Once the mixture is homogeneous, fold in the beaten egg whites.
- Divide the mixture into two equal parts and bake two sponges in the same pan, at the same temperature of 180°C for 20-25 minutes. After baking, let them cool.
4. Assembling the Television Cake:
- Soak the first cocoa sponge with fruit juice or liqueur. Spread half of the cooled vanilla cream evenly, followed by the white sponge, which will also be soaked with fruit juice.
- Add a layer of jam to taste, then spread the remaining vanilla cream.
- Finally, place the second cocoa sponge on top, soaked again with fruit juice.
5. Decorating the cake:
- For an elegant look, you can melt 40 g of white chocolate in a plastic bag placed in a bowl of hot water. Once the chocolate is soft, cut a corner of the bag and create a lattice pattern on the surface of the cake.
6. Serving:
- Once the cake has completely cooled, cut it into slices and serve with a cup of tea or coffee. It is perfect to enjoy in the company of loved ones or as a little treat at the end of a long day.
Useful tips:
- Customization: You can experiment with different flavors for the vanilla cream by adding orange essence or even a little coffee.
- Soaking the sponges: Instead of fruit juice, you can use maple syrup or a mixture of water with sugar to add more moisture.
- Storage: The Television Cake keeps well in the fridge, covered with plastic wrap, for up to a week.
Nutritional benefits:
This cake is rich in calories but can be considered an occasional special treat. The butter and eggs provide healthy fats and proteins, while cocoa contains antioxidants, thus benefiting the body.
Frequently asked questions:
- *Can I make the cake gluten-free?* Yes, you can use gluten-free flour for the sponges.
