Who doesn’t love a good sandwich? This layered sandwich, full of flavors and textures, is an excellent choice for a quick breakfast or a satisfying lunch. Besides being tasty, it is also very easy to prepare, making it an ideal recipe for anyone, regardless of their cooking experience level.

Preparation time: 10 minutes
Baking time: 5 minutes
Total time: 15 minutes
Servings: 1 layered sandwich

Ingredients:
- 4 slices of sandwich bread
- 4 slices of pressed ham (salami or bologna)
- 1 large, ripe tomato
- 2 slices of melted cheese (or cheddar)
- 1 egg
- 1 pickled cucumber
- a few leaves of fresh green lettuce
- margarine for spreading
- salt to taste

Recipe History:
The layered sandwich has its roots in the culinary traditions of fast meals, being a perfect combination of accessible ingredients and simple preparation techniques. This recipe is perfect for adapting to personal preferences and is an example of creativity in using leftovers from the fridge.

Step by Step:

1. Preparing the Bread: Start by taking the 4 slices of sandwich bread. Spread a thin layer of margarine on each side. This step will not only provide a delicious flavor but will also help achieve a golden, crispy crust.

2. Toasting the Bread: Place the slices of bread in a sandwich maker or a non-stick skillet. Toast them over medium heat until they become golden and crispy, about 2-3 minutes on each side. Be careful not to burn them! A good idea is to check them after the first few minutes to ensure they are perfectly browned.

3. Assembling the Sandwich: Once the bread is toasted, place it on a plate. Layer the first slice of pressed ham, followed by a slice of melted cheese. Add a few leaves of fresh green lettuce, slices of tomato, and a few thin slices of pickled cucumber. Sprinkle a little salt to enhance the flavors.

4. Repeating the Layers: Place a second slice of bread on top and repeat the same process: add ham, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and cucumber. Continue until you reach the third slice of bread.

5. Adding the Egg: In a small skillet, fry the egg sunny-side up, leaving the yolk runny. This will add a creamy note to the sandwich. Place the egg on top of the third slice of bread.

6. Completing the Sandwich: Take the fourth slice of bread and use a glass to create a dent in the center. Place the slice on top of the egg, leaving the yolk visible through the hole. This detail will not only add an attractive look but also an explosion of flavor when you dig in.

Practical Tips:
- For an even more intense taste and aroma, you can add spices like freshly ground pepper or herbs between the layers of ingredients.
- If you prefer a heartier sandwich, you can add a few slices of avocado or crispy bacon.
- This layered sandwich pairs perfectly with a glass of fresh orange juice or a fruit smoothie, providing a balanced and vitamin-rich breakfast.

Frequently Asked Questions:
- Can I use other types of bread? Absolutely! You can opt for whole grain bread, ciabatta, or even baguettes, depending on your preferences.
- How can I make the sandwich healthier? Replace the ham with grilled chicken or marinated tofu for a vegetarian option. Also, use light cheese to reduce calorie intake.
- Can it be prepared in advance? While it’s best fresh, you can prepare the ingredients a day ahead and assemble the sandwich in the morning for a quick breakfast.

Nutritional Benefits:
This layered sandwich is an excellent source of protein, thanks to the ham and egg, while the fresh vegetables provide an important supply of vitamins and minerals. Additionally, whole grain bread can be a good choice to add fiber to your diet.
