Number of servings: 2

Who doesn't love a well-made shawarma? The enticing flavors and crispy texture are just a few reasons why this dish has become a favorite worldwide. The good news is that you can recreate this culinary experience at home with fresh, quality ingredients. In this recipe, I will show you how to prepare a delicious shawarma using chicken, crunchy vegetables, and flavorful sauces. Each bite will be an explosion of tastes, and you will be proud of the final result.

Necessary ingredients:
- 300 g chicken (breast or boneless thighs)
- 4 medium potatoes
- 2 flatbreads (or pita bread)
- 4 tablespoons sour cream
- 1/2 red onion
- 1 garlic clove
- 1/4 medium cabbage
- 3 pickles
- 1 large tomato
- salt (to taste)
- ketchup (to taste)
- chicken spice mix (can be a blend of paprika, cumin, and coriander)
- a bit of lettuce
- a pinch of dried thyme

Necessary tools:
- A sharp knife
- A frying pan or grill
- A pot for frying potatoes
- A bowl for mixing ingredients
- Absorbent paper towels

Step by step:

1. Preparing the chicken:
To start, wash the chicken under cold running water. Then, cut it into long strips of desired thickness. It's important that the strips are neither too thin, to avoid drying out while frying, nor too thick, to ensure even cooking.

2. Seasoning the chicken:
In a bowl, add the chicken strips and sprinkle a tablespoon of spices. Mix well so that each piece is evenly coated. These spices will give the chicken a delicious flavor that will blend perfectly with the other ingredients.

3. Frying the chicken:
Heat a little oil in a frying pan or on a grill. Add the chicken strips and fry until golden and cooked inside, about 7-10 minutes. Be sure to turn them frequently to avoid sticking to the pan and to achieve even browning.

4. Preparing the fried potatoes:
Meanwhile, peel the four potatoes, wash them, and cut them into fries. In a pot with hot oil, fry the potatoes until they are crispy and golden. Then, remove them onto absorbent paper towels to eliminate excess oil. They will add a crunchy texture to your shawarma.

5. Preparing the vegetables:
Chop the cabbage finely and place it in a bowl. Add salt, oil, and vinegar to taste, mixing well to combine the flavors. This mixture will bring a fresh and crunchy note to your shawarma.

Peel the red onion and slice it thinly. Cut the tomato into slices and the pickles into rounds. Crush the garlic clove with the knife blade and chop it finely. Mix the garlic with the 4 tablespoons of sour cream, adding a pinch of thyme and salt for extra flavor.

6. Assembling the shawarma:
Now that all the ingredients are prepared, it's time to assemble the shawarma. Spread a flatbread on a plate and generously spread the sour cream sauce on it. Then, add a layer of fried potatoes, the golden chicken strips, a drizzle of ketchup, the cabbage salad, the red onion, the tomato slices, and the rounds of pickles. Finally, add a bit of lettuce for extra freshness.

7. Rolling the shawarma:
Carefully fold the flatbread, ensuring no ingredients spill out. You can use aluminum foil to help maintain the shape, especially if you plan to serve it later.

Useful tips:
- If you want a spicier shawarma, add hot pepper sauce or spicy spices to the sour cream sauce.
- You can substitute chicken with beef or tofu for a vegetarian option.
- For a more intense flavor, you can add olives or bell peppers to the filling.
- If you prefer a crunchier texture, you can bake the shawarma in the oven for 5-10 minutes after assembling it.

Delicious combinations:
Homemade shawarma pairs perfectly with a refreshing drink, such as tomato juice or iced tea with lemon. It is also delicious alongside tzatziki sauce or a potato salad.

Nutritional information:
This shawarma contains approximately 500 calories per serving, being a good source of protein thanks to the chicken, as well as fiber from the fresh vegetables. By adding salad and vegetables, you will benefit from essential vitamins and minerals.

Now that you have all the necessary information, all that's left is to start cooking and enjoy a delicious meal! Each bite of homemade shawarma will be an explosion of flavors, and you will be proud to have recreated such a beloved dish. Enjoy your meal!
