Let’s embark together on the preparation of these fluffy dumplings, which are sure to impress family and friends.
Preparation Time
- Preparation time: 30 minutes
- Cooking time: 20 minutes
- Total time: 50 minutes
- Servings: 4-6
Ingredients
For Dumplings
- 1 kg potatoes (preferably starchy)
- 300 g flour
- 1-2 eggs
- A pinch of salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 500 g plums or apricots (fresh, ripe)
For Breadcrumbs
- 6 tablespoons breadcrumbs
- Sugar, to taste
- (optional) 1-2 packets of vanilla sugar
Preparing the Breadcrumbs
1. Toasting the Breadcrumbs: Start by toasting the breadcrumbs. In a pan, melt a cube of butter over low heat and add the breadcrumbs. Stir constantly until they become golden and crispy. This will be the layer that adds extra texture to our dumplings. At the end, we can add sugar and vanilla sugar to enhance the flavor.
Preparing the Dumplings
2. Boiling the Potatoes: Wash the potatoes well and boil them in salted water. Make sure to boil them until they are very soft, but do not let them fall apart. It is essential to use quality potatoes to achieve a perfect dough.
3. Preparing the Dough: Once the potatoes are ready, drain them and let them cool slightly. Then, mash them either manually with a fork or using a potato ricer. Add the eggs, salt, and sugar, and then start incorporating the flour gradually until you obtain a soft but compact dough. Do not overdo it with the flour, as the dough should be slightly elastic.
Forming the Dumplings
4. Filling the Dumplings: Sprinkle a little flour on the table. Take a portion of dough with a spoon and place it in your palm. Make an indentation in the center and add a halved plum sprinkled with a little sugar (or half an apricot). Close the dough around the fruit, forming a round ball. Repeat until you finish the entire amount of dough and filling.
Boiling the Dumplings
5. Boiling: In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Reduce the heat and carefully add the dumplings. They will rise to the surface when cooked. Let them boil for about 5-7 minutes after they float to the surface, then remove them with a slotted spoon and let them drain.
Finishing the Dish
6. Coating the Dumplings: Once well-drained, roll the dumplings in the breadcrumb and sugar mixture, ensuring they are evenly coated.
Helpful Tip
For an extra flavor boost, you can add a little cinnamon to the breadcrumb mixture. This will add a warm, comforting aroma that perfectly complements the fruit.
Serving
Plum or apricot dumplings are served warm, but they are just as delicious cold. You can accompany them with a serving of fresh sour cream or yogurt, which will add a note of freshness.

These dumplings can also be made with other fruits, such as cherries or peaches. Experiment with various fruit combinations to discover new flavors. You can also serve them alongside a vanilla sauce or fruit syrup.
