Cheese Puff Pastry – A Crispy and Flavorful Delight

If you're looking for a quick, easy, and absolutely delicious recipe, cheese puff pastry is the perfect choice. This versatile dish combines the flaky texture of the pastry with a creamy cheese filling, delivering a result that will delight both family and friends. Plus, it's ideal for any occasion, from a simple snack to an elegant party. Here’s how to prepare it step by step, ensuring you achieve a perfect result every time!

Preparation time: 30 minutes
Baking time: 25 minutes
Total time: 55 minutes
Servings: 8-10 servings

Ingredients you need:
- 1 package of puff pastry (approximately 400 g, I recommend the Morărița brand or any other preferred brand)
- 250 g fresh cow cheese
- 200 g salami, diced into small cubes
- 200 g grated cheese
- 3 eggs (2 for the filling, 1 for brushing)
- A bunch of fresh parsley, finely chopped
- Salt, to taste
- Pepper, to taste

Filling preparation – Step by step:
1. Preparing the filling: In a large bowl, combine the fresh cow cheese with two of the eggs, the grated cheese, the diced salami, and the chopped parsley. Add salt and pepper to taste. Mix the ingredients well until you obtain a smooth paste, which will become the delicious filling for your puff pastry.

2. Preparing the pastry: Take the pastry out of the fridge and let it thaw for about 10 minutes. Then, roll it out on a work surface using a rolling pin until it reaches an even thickness. Use a knife or a cutter to cut out round or square shapes, depending on your preference.

3. Assembling: Place the cut shapes on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Beat the remaining egg and use it to brush the edges of the shapes on the tray. This will help seal the layers and give a nice color when baked.

4. Creating the "lid": Take another piece of pastry (round or square) and cut a small hole in the middle. Place this shape on top of the filling, creating a sort of lid to hold in the delicious filling.

5. Filling: Use a spoon to place the cheese mixture into the opening of the "lid". Make sure it is well filled, but don’t overdo it, as the filling will puff up slightly when baked.

6. Finalizing: If you have leftover pastry, you can cut additional shapes, such as stars, to place on top of the puff pastry for a playful look.

7. Baking: Preheat the oven to 180°C. Bake the puff pastry for 25 minutes or until golden and crispy.

Serving and suggestions:
Once the puff pastry has cooled slightly, serve it warm alongside a seasonal salad. You can accompany this dish with a yogurt sauce or a mixture of tomatoes and basil, which will add a fresh contrast.

Tips and useful advice:
- Calories and nutritional benefits: A serving of cheese puff pastry contains approximately 250 calories, depending on portions and ingredients used. Fresh cow cheese is an excellent source of protein, and the salami adds a savory touch.
- Variations: You can experiment with different types of cheese, such as goat cheese or mozzarella, to achieve various flavors. You can also add sautéed vegetables, such as spinach or mushrooms, to incorporate them into the filling.
- Frequently asked questions:
- Can I use pastry dough instead of puff pastry? Yes, but the texture will be different; the pastry dough will be less crispy.
- How can I store leftover puff pastry? You can keep it in the fridge in an airtight container for 2-3 days. You can reheat it in the oven to make it crispy again.
