This dish combines soft dough with a savory filling, and the final result will be a delicacy you won't forget anytime soon.
Preparation time: 30 minutes
Baking time: 20 minutes
Total time: 50 minutes
Number of servings: 4-6
Required ingredients:
For the dough:
- 300 g flour
- 1 cup warm milk
- 1/2 cube fresh yeast (about 20 g)
- 1 egg
- a pinch of salt
- a pinch of sugar
For the filling:
- 1 cup rice (about 100 g)
- 1 medium onion
- 1 large carrot
- salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 4 chicken wings
- 5-6 slices of kaiser
- 1 egg
- grated cheese (about 100 g)
- red and green bell peppers (for decoration)
- 10-12 pasta tubes
Ingredient tips:
- Choose a good quality flour for a perfect dough. Type 000 or 550 flour is ideal for achieving a fluffy dough.
- Fresh yeast provides a better taste and texture than dry yeast, so don't hesitate to use it.
- Long-grain rice is preferable for the filling, as it separates well when cooked.
- Kaiser can be replaced with any other type of quality cold cuts, depending on your preferences.
A brief history:
The Surprise Pot is a dish inspired by diverse culinary traditions, where dough and filling blend perfectly. This dish is often prepared for special occasions, bringing family and friends together around the table. It is a versatile recipe that can be adapted based on available ingredients and individual preferences.
Preparation method:
1. Preparing the dough: In a large bowl, place the flour, leaving a well in the middle. Add the sugar, salt, and egg into the well. Dissolve the yeast in the warm milk, then add it to the bowl. Mix the ingredients with a spatula or with your hands until the dough begins to form.
2. Kneading the dough: Knead the dough for 3-4 minutes until it becomes elastic and pulls away from the sides of the bowl. It should be soft but not sticky. If necessary, add a little extra flour.
3. Shaping the dough: On a floured work surface, roll out the dough into two circles: one with a diameter of about 15 cm and the other with 30 cm. From the smaller circle, shape a lid (this will cover the pot).
4. Preparing the pot: Line a pot that can go in the oven with baking paper. Place the larger circle of dough in the pot, forming a base for the filling. Place both dough shapes on a baking tray lined with baking paper and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 10 minutes.
5. Preparing the filling: In a pot, boil the pasta tubes in salted boiling water with a little oil for 8 minutes. After boiling, drain them and rinse under cold water to prevent sticking.
6. Cooking the meat: In a pot, fry the chicken wings in oil until golden. Remove them, and in the remaining oil, add the onion and carrot, sautéing until soft.
7. Preparing the rice: Add the washed rice to the pot with the onion and carrot. Add a glass of water, salt, and pepper, then let it simmer covered for 15 minutes until the rice is cooked and has absorbed all the water.
8. Filling the pot: From the rice mixture, take a teaspoon and fill the pasta tubes. Place them in the pot with the dough, adding a few slices of kaiser, the wings on top, and then pour the beaten egg with salt and pepper. Sprinkle the grated cheese and diced bell pepper on top.
9. Finalizing the dish: Cover the filling with the lid you shaped earlier. Bake again for 10 minutes until the dough is golden and crispy.
Serving: The Surprise Pot is served warm, alongside pickles or a fresh salad. It is a dish that will turn any meal into a special occasion!
